The E-3 visa is a United States non-immigrant visa category created only for Australian citizens working in “specialty occupations.”
The key requirements of the E-3 visa are that the principal employee applicant be an Australian citizen, have a valid job offer in the United States at a sufficient salary and professional role, and be in possession of a Bachelors degree or higher (or sufficient years of work experience in lieu).

The E-3 visa differs from most other work visa categories in that it does not require a petition to be lodged with the immigration department (USCIS) in the United States. Instead, the US Consulates abroad assess the merits of the application at an in-person interview.
